Guide

Marble vs quartz. Natural stone or engineered.

Quartz surfaces are engineered: crushed quartz bound with resin, often printed to look like marble. Marble is quarried stone. Here is how they differ in use.

01

Material.

Marble is a single natural stone. Engineered quartz is around 90 percent ground quartz and 10 percent resin and pigment.

02

Look.

Quartz patterns repeat and sit on the surface. Marble veining runs through the stone and every piece is different.

03

Wear.

Quartz resists stains and acid but can be damaged by heat. Marble is heat-tolerant but etches with acid. Marble can be re-polished. Quartz damage is harder to repair.

Questions

FAQ.

Is quartz better than marble?

It is lower maintenance. Marble has natural depth and can be restored. It depends on what you value.

Can quartz be used for a sink?

Integrated quartz sinks exist. Solid stone basins are typically natural stone.

Does marble handle hot items?

Yes, better than resin-based surfaces. Avoid sudden extreme temperature changes.
