Guide

Carrara marble. The white stone, explained.

Carrara is the most familiar white marble in Europe. White to light grey, with soft grey veining. This guide covers what to expect from it in a bathroom or living room.

01

Colour and veining.

Carrara has a white to blue-grey background with fine, feathered grey veins. The pattern is softer and denser than Calacatta, which has a whiter base and bolder veins.

Every slab differs. Some pieces are almost plain, others heavily veined.

02

Where it works.

Carrara is used for basins, floors, wall tiles and furniture. In a bathroom it keeps the room bright. It sits well next to oak, brushed steel and white walls.

03

Care.

Like all marble, Carrara reacts to acids and can stain from coloured liquids. Seal it, wipe it dry, and use a pH-neutral cleaner. Light marks show less on Carrara than on darker stones.

Questions

FAQ.

Is Carrara marble expensive?

It is one of the more accessible white marbles because it is widely quarried. Price depends more on the piece and the work than on the stone alone.

Does Carrara marble turn yellow?

Not on its own. Yellowing usually comes from iron in the stone reacting to water or from unsuitable cleaning products.

Is Carrara good for a bathroom sink?

Yes. It is one of the most common stones for basins. Seal it and avoid leaving acidic products on the surface.
